WE CAN BARELY WAIT!
TO CELEBRATE GRIFFIN!
SO WHAT IS A BAR MITZVAH?
A Bar Mitzvah is a significant milestone in a young Jewish person's life, marking their entry into the adult world of the Jewish community. At age 13, they take on new responsibilities, like reading from the Torah in front of family, friends, and perhaps a slightly nervous rabbi. Think of it as a spiritual coming-of-age with a little extra ceremony—and maybe some dancing.
HOW LONG DOES IT USUALLY LAST?
The service usually runs about 90 minutes, give or take. It's a meaningful occasion that includes readings, blessings, and a bit of pageantry. But don’t worry, there’s usually plenty of joy, music, and yes, some time to eat and chat at a Kiddush luncheon, immediately following the service!
WHAT DO I WEAR TO THE BAR MITZVAH?
At a Reform synagogue with a casual vibe, think polished but comfortable. For guys, that means slacks and a button-down shirt, with or without a blazer. Girls might opt for a dress, skirt, or nice pants paired with a top. We typically just try to cover our shoulders in the sanctuary. And shoes? Whatever your heart and toes desire. Flats, heels, boots or sneaks.
WHAT IS A KIPPAH? AND WHY ARE WE OFFERING YOU ONE?
A kippah (pronounced “kee-pah”) is a small, round head covering worn during Jewish services and ceremonies. Think of it as a little hat with a lot of heart. It’s worn as a sign of respect, a reminder of humility, and to keep you from being the only one in the room with perfectly styled hair.
Now, why do we offer you one at a Bar Mitzvah? Because we want you to feel like part of the family! Plus, we know you probably didn’t bring one from home—unless you have an unexpected collection of ceremonial headgear. So, whether you're here for tradition, spirituality, or just the food, go ahead and pop on that kippah. It's our way of saying, "Welcome, join us, and don't worry—we've got you covered!"
Enjoy the service, soak up the tradition, and be ready to celebrate this meaningful moment!
Not comfortable wearing it, no worries, it''s not required.
WHAT IS THE TRADITIONAL GIFT FOR A BAR MITZVAH?
Great question! While your presence is definitely the best gift, if you're looking to give Griffin a little something, it's tradition to gift money in multiples of 18.
Why 18? In Judaism, it symbolizes "chai," the Hebrew word for life! So, giving in these amounts is like sending a little wish for a long, happy life. Pretty cool, right?
